ELECTRONIC VIGNETTE INFORMATION

Electric and hydrogen vehicles without a toll charge

The year 2024 brings significant changes in mobility that will have a major impact on owners of zero CO₂ vehicles. In line with the growing trend towards green travel and the promotion of sustainable alternatives, these vehicles will become the first to be exempt from the obligation to purchase vignettes. These decisions reflect not only a desire to promote green technologies, but also a desire to reduce traffic bottlenecks and simplify travel.

Special registration plates

The new rule will allow owners of electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles to travel without having to pay for the use of the motorway network through vignettes. Instead, these vehicles will be automatically identified by special registration plates that owners of these vehicles will receive. These measures are in line with global efforts to reduce CO₂ emissions and move towards more sustainable transport.

This initiative provides an incentive for the further development of electro-mobility and hydrogen technologies in transport. The exemption from the obligation to pay for vignettes may lead to an increased interest in these environmentally friendly alternatives to traditional combustion engine vehicles. At the same time, however, it will be important to ensure that there is sufficient infrastructure of hydrogen charging stations and refuelling stations to ensure that support for these types of vehicles is sustainable and effective.
